Reason for Divorce: Scattergories Answers

"Yes, that's correct, Your Honor.  The reason that I'm requesting this divorce is because of Scattergories answers."

At least I imagine the conversation would go something like that.  I am not actually filing for divorce over Scattergories answers, but after the events of last night I am seriously wondering how many marriages Hasbro has contributed to ending.

Background info: I like games that involve words and defining words and spelling words out of random letters.  I like these games because I am usually pretty good at them.  My parents actually used to have a game called Blurt (where someone reads a definition and you blurt out the defined word) that we played as a family a few times and then they all refused to play it with me ever again because I trounced them quite soundly (this was also when I was young and a horrible winner.  I am a better winner now).  So, Scattergories is right up my alley.

We went over to Jackie and Craig's house last evening for a bbq and decided to play a game after consuming our fabulous feast.  Out of the options available we settled on Scattergories (as you may have deduced from the previous information).  And it all pretty much went downhill from there.  The first issue arose when Jay protested that I could not use "Nemo" as something you find in the ocean that starts with an "N" because Nemo is a cartoon character and would therefore not be in the ocean.  Jackie and I vetoed his protest since Nemo is a clownfish and you can find clownfish in the ocean.  And then things got more tense when Jay tried to insist that Jackie and I couldn't have points for Jackie using "Lady Gaga" and me using "Lady" (from Lady and the Tramp) as Famous Females starting with the letter "L."  2 completely different females, and it does not specify that they need to be human.  But the straw that broke the camel's back was when Jay tried to pass off "Babe Ruth" as a Television Star starting with the letter "B."  We had about a 5 minute argument which went something like this:

Me: "A TV Star is someone in a sitcom, or a drama, or some other series that airs on TV, not an athlete!"

Jay: "Well, if you'd been alive when he was playing baseball, where would you have seen him?"

Me: "In person because people didn't have TVs in their homes at that point in time!!!   Or I would have listened to the announcer on the radio!!!"

Jay: "Well some people had TVs and would have watched the games there.  And there would have been multiple games so it would have been more than once and that qualifies as a TV series!  And you're winning anyway, so why do you care?"

Me: "Because if I let you have points for all your answers that make no sense I won't be winning anymore!"

Ya.  That's right.  Ridonculous.  Jay finally grudgingly did not take the point and we continued with the game.  HOWEVER, at least once a round thereafter we had to listen to some sort of comment about "Nemo" or how "that's the same as me putting Babe Ruth!"  Longest. Game. Ever.

And for the record, I even deducted my Nemo point later on just to shut him up … and it didn't work.  But I did win … and also lost I suppose.

Catch Up

First off, sorry that I haven't been posting much lately.  Also sorry to anyone who's blog I normally read and comment on.  I have been super crazy busy with life and work lately (yes I've even been working from home on quite a few evenings) which hasn't left much "me" time.  Also, since blogger decided to "upgrade" I haven't had a chance to check out the changes and just figured out today how to find my list of blogs I follow so I can see who has blogged recently.  I will try to catch up on everyone's stuff soon.  I promise.  And I also promise to blog with pictures and such as soon as I find some time to get Jay's pictures off his phone (since that seems to be where all our pictures end up these days).

So to tide you over, here are some random thoughts from me.  Sorry Erin, this is probably the only one I'm going to get done this weekend :P

1. Life has been marching on and I can't believe we're already at the end of April!  It's going to be Christmas again before I know it!

2. I've somehow turned into the Mom that decorates for every holiday.  I'm not sure how it happened since my own Mom doesn't do that, but I think Jay's kind of happy that Easter's over so we don't have anything to decorate for until Halloween.  I haven't quite come around to the idea of decorating for Canada Day yet, but will probably have to find Paxton a shirt for it :)

3. Thanks to Yummy Mummy Shoes, I seem to have developed a shoe addiction (and the purse addiction isn't far behind).  Tisha and Jessica seem to be more than happy to fuel said addiction for me :)  I ended up with 3 new pairs of shoes yesterday even though I only went to buy 2 and if I'd had more cash on me I probably would have ended up with more!
Zebra wedges. I was so excited to snag these ones.  They sold out super quick!
Yellow wedges.  These are seriously some of the most comfy shoes I've ever worn!  And they're super cute to boot :)
Brown wedges.  Same as the yellow ones, but really how could I pass them  up?  And they will go with so many outfits!

4. Did you know that a dog barrier for an SUV makes a fantastic shoe rack?  Well it does.
Ya, so about that shoe addiction ...

5. One more about shoes.  Jay hates pretty much all of my new shoes because most of them are heels and make me a lot taller than him when I wear them (we're pretty much the same height).  So I'm only "allowed" to wear my shoes for work or if I'm going somewhere without him or else I have to listen to Jay whining about it.  *sigh*

6. I'm still on the wagon.  I had a bit of a binge last weekend because it was Jodie's birthday (I'm pretty sure I ate like 10 lemon tarts along with other delicious food).  But I smartened up and re-lost the few pounds I gained over the weekend this week and I'm back to 41 pounds down.  I will post new pics once I get Jay to take some for me.  I don't think I've really changed too much in the last month, but other people seem to.

7. With the warmer weather I'm finding it slightly more difficult to stick to the healthy eating since we all know that warm weather means BBQ.  Jay loves to bbq and especially loves things like steak and hamburgers.  And then we need to have potato salad, or pasta salad or potato chips or any other number of calorie-laden sides to go with!  *sigh*  It's going to be a long summer filled with me reminding myself that I don't need another helping of whatever.  I've stuck with it this long so I'm not giving up now!

8. Paxton has entered a super lovey phase.  He loves pretty much everything.  The other day as we were leaving the house in the morning he yelled, "Bye puppies!  I yuv you!"  And then as we were driving to daycare he said, "We no go store.  We go Vicki's.  I yuv it!!!"  He's a little ridiculous.

9. We've  been dog-sitting Jackie's Yorkshire Terrier, Hiro, this weekend.  Paxton knows he's not supposed to hit Hiro first because he shouldn't be hitting any dogs and second because Hiro's slightly smaller than our dogs ... ok he's a LOT smaller than our dogs, even if he is a "large breed Yorkie" at 9.6 lbs :)  Anyway, yesterday morning Paxton kept walking over to Hiro and telling me, "Hewo is Annie's.  No hit.  Nice."  And then he'd pet Hiro ever so nicely.  So sweet my boy ... when he wants to be anyway.

10. I don't know why, but "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry has been one of my favorite songs for like the last 3 months.  A little morbid if you think about it, but I just can't help loving it!  Granted, "Red Solo Cup" by Toby Keith and "King of Anything" by Sara Bareilles have been up there as well so it's not all morbid songs :)

I Love You!

Paxton can be super ridiculously cute and sweet when he wants to be.  Exhibit A:

Now if only he would want to be super ridiculously cute and sweet more often instead of having selective hearing most of the time :S

P.S.  He also gets exremely distracted when he sees us with the camera or our phones out and always wants to "watch the movie" on them when we're trying to video him.  At least my iPhone has the forward facing camera on it so I was able to catch this one :D

Hit Me!

Jay got Paxton a "bopper" bag thing about a month ago.  You know, the ones that you can kick and punch and they stand back up (or at least they used to until the barrier on the inside broke so all the "weight" now rolls around throughout the whole inside of it).  Paxton loves it.  He kicks it and punches it and throws it down the stairs and chases the dogs around with it.  The other night Jay tapped him with it, and that started off the whole episode below.  I'm fairly certain Paxton would have kept going for hours if Jay'd been up for it :)

So at this point I'm thinking Paxton could have a future with the WWE if he keeps it up.  Just a tiny bit of overacting, eh?

March Update

It's that time again!  March has not been nearly as exciting in the weight loss department as January and February were.  There are a bunch of factors contributing to this:
- I haven't been as diligent at counting my calories;
- I've had some "binge" days;
- It was my birthday at the end of February and then it was time to celebrate the end of our busy season, and then there were people up from the States to visit for work and we had to go out;
- I've hit a plateau after losing so much weight in 2 months;
- blah, blah, blah.

Either way, I am down 34 lbs since starting my weight loss journey in January.  I think that's pretty awesome!  I've been feeling not so awesome lately though since I've been gaining and losing the same pound for the last week or so.  I've also hit a slightly awkward phase with my wardrobe where some of the clothes that I thought were really cute and I looked good on me a month ago now don't fit me the same way.  This is excellent, don't get me wrong I'm totally stoked that my clothes are getting too big, but it took me 15 minutes and about 10 outfit changes to decide what to wear to work this morning!  That's a little ridiculous for me :)  I know, boo-hoo for me.

So what happened to me after work today made me feel pretty great and was just what I needed.  I was walking up to Wal-Mart to pick up some gauze for Jay's thumb and some milk and was totally in my grocery shopping mode (sort of like "in the zone" and super focused on the task at hand).  After crossing in front of an SUV to reach the storefront I heard a "woo woo" whistle behind me.  I glanced back and the driver had the window rolled down and was looking at me (he was about my age and not terribly hard on the eyes).  I was shocked and glanced around, but there was no one else there, so I can only assume that the whistle was directed at me.  WHAT?!?!?!?!?  No one has ever whistled like that at me.  Granted, I did have a pair of my Yummy Mummy heels on, and I have my new haircut, and I had my sunglasses on, and I was wearing work clothes instead of yoga pants and flip flops ... but I'm still shocked.  So I smiled, continued walking into the store, commenced to giggling like a little school girl and did the only sensible thing ... I called Kelly and told her that I didn't know what to do with myself!

So the moral of my day is that although I'm not feeling like my hard work is paying off what matters most is how you I see myself (even if I do need to look through someone else's eyes every so often).

And here are the new pics from today.  I apologize that I'm not looking very modelesque.  Paxton wanted to stand right in front of me in all of them so I kept moving him and Jay kept taking the pictures before I was posed again.  My hair is also messed up because I'd gone for a massage prior to my trip to Wal-Mart.  Gah!
Me in my heels!

So I decided ...

... that since my body is looking different that I needed to do something with my hair.  And today was the day.  I went and got it hi-lited and a bunch cut off.  It's probably going to take a few days to get used to it, but so far everyone seems to like it.  What do you think?

And on a side note, apparently I am some sort of an albino.  When I got my hair done today, the stylist said, "I really like the blonde on you.  It adds some color to your face."  That's the same thing the stylist said when I went brown last year.
So the only conclusion I can come to is that my natural hair color drains all color from my face therefore making me an albino :)

You think so, eh?

Jay's got a pretty decent head cold today so he's not feeling too awesome.  While we were attempting to watch a movie (as much as you can with a 2 year old flitting and stomping and careening around the house) my Mom called.  At the exact same moment Paxton started crying up in his room so I headed up to see what was going on.  Apparently it was nothing major because he stopped crying as soon as I asked him if he wanted to talk to Grammy.

Anyway, while I was on the phone Jay relocated to our bedroom to wait until I was done and Paxton had found him there.  I went in to lay on the bed with them, and that's when the comedian arrived.  Paxton informed me that he wanted to "sleep in the big bed with Daddy."  So I asked him, "where is Mommy going to sleep if your're in the big bed?"  "You go sleep in my bed." he informed me with his most serious tone.  Jay and I looked at each other and started laughing.  In the meantime, Paxton cuddled down under the blankets and when he saw I hadn't immediately gone to his bed he repeated, "Mommy.  Go sleep in my bed!"

Well, alrighty then.  I'm guessing it's not going to be too comfy since Paxton's still in his crib!  What a goofy boy I have!
